“OK! Really Lola, could you adjust now? You are
choking me.”
Sheila complained, shooting her butt out in other to overrun Lola on the 3 by 3
wooden bed.
“Oh... Lola now! Please, Could you just be considerate?” Sheila shot her butt further.
“… and what’s
all this KMC going on here?”
“Ehen! What is KMC?” Lola jumped off the bed.
“Bush girl! It means Kangaroo Mother Care. :p ...you
were cuddling me before now”
Sheila tried to explain, adjusting her pillow and laying down properly.
“Guess I slept, oblivious of what I was doing,” her lips pouting to the side. “Ok! I was probably dreaming…” Moving towards her bed, Lola tried to defend
herself while trying to push to the edge, the heap of clothes that was lying on
her mattress.
“This is what we do every Saturday afternoon, we
sleep!” Pushing the blanket away, she hit her hand on
the wall. “Ouch!”
“Can’t
you just shut up?!!”
Sheila pulled to her ears the soft plump pillow awaiting her touch.
“Abegi na only you dey sleep for here?” Lola who was already getting frustrated by
Sheila’s
complaints yelled.
In
few seconds, the room was dead quiet.

“Knock! Knock!! Knock!!! Who is in?” A
familiar voice at the other side of the door asked.
“Lola go and open the door” Sheila who was doing a squat earlier finished
up with a stretch.
“For what nah?”
Lola questioned rolling to the other end of her bed.
“Because you’re
closer to the door, I know you wouldn’t
go really, so…”
“Hello!”
the visitor again called for attention.
“We are coming…”
Sheila did a cricket jump and then turned the key. The door swung to the side
almost immediately, leaving Sheila with a slight chance of not getting hit.
“Dami!”
Sheila screamed as she jumped on her.
Lola
who was still on the bed scuttled up, “Where
is that dumbass!”
she couldn’t
help but push Sheila away so she could get her own share of the hug.
“Really you guys missed me?” she said with a flutter of her long dark
eyelashes.
“Abegi! You told me last night that you won’t be coming until next week.” Sheila accused her while Lola rushed to close
the door behind.
“Now I’m
here… nothing is as awesome as
surprises…”
she fluttered her lashes again.
“Tchewww, worst plan ever!” Lola criticized.
“Sorry girlfriend, it didn’t work”
Sheila seconded Lola, pulling away from her like she just disturbed the air.
“Really….where
are you girls going? You two had better beg me now or I’ll keep the clothes I got for you,” Dami commanded looking away from their
direction.
Lola
and Sheila tilted their neck taking a glance at the bogus bag lying next to
Dami. Their eyeballs bulged
“ahan ahan babe,”
Sheila moved closer, “
you know we missed you now.”
“C’mon
you wouldn’t
wanna take those stuffs back home”
Lola …
“Really I dream about you every night” Sheila tried convincing her.
“See what girls can do for a 2yard top. Am not
even sure it’s
up to 2yards.”
Dami busted with laughter. “….Really,
you girls should tell me something,”
moving closer in excitement
“How is Folake? I’ve
missed that babe o…
and April, hope she’s
doing great without that scum?”
Sheila
laughed in amusement “who?”
“David of course”
Dami scrunched up her brow, wondering where Sheila kept her brain.
“You detest him that much?” Sheila persisted.
“No o, David is my pal. In fact when I see him,
we would have a long talk”
gesticulating with her hands and head, moving simultaneously.
“Hope it’s
something better than your shitty talk?”
Sheila tried to be more subtle,
“I would tell him…
anything he does with April, he can’t
wife a hoe….
that inevitable vigil in their house? ...it’s
so debilitating, it would kill Helen.”
Dami
shook her head like she was trying to exorcize.
“I remember then in their house when we were
much younger, Fridays isn’t
the day to be giddy about.”
“...in David’s
house?”
Lola asked in excitement.
“Yes my dear, every Friday… 11pm to 2am…
by then we would’ve
been worn-out kids. After sometime I convinced my mom not to force me there for
holidays, they ain’t
the only family friend we’ve
got.” Lola and Sheila laughed in
unity.
“His father must be a pastor” Sheila suggested sipping a cup of water.
“...prayer warrior leader! The poor man, he
wants everyone in the house to be like him,”
she pulled the pillow near “David
has really changed, now he prefers vigils in another dimension *winks*” she slide the pillow to the wall while she
followed
.
“Dami, see you are talking too much, let’s have a look at what you’ve got in your bag.” Lola’s
impatience didn’t
allow more of Dami’s
reminiscent talk.
“Hahaha!!!”
she laughed, “see
thief o, oya help me pass my bag”
she beckoned on Sheila who was by then pulling the sack near.
Looking
through her stuffed bag like a nursing mother, she pulled it closer so as to
have a better look of what was inside.
“You girls are moving too close, I need air” she said jokingly, looking into Sheila’s eye to see if the demon in her would rise. She
gave a wry grin knowing the girls weren’t
moved by her accusation.
“Desperados, I can’t
imagine that if I hadn’t
promised you a blouse, you girls would have beaten me up before I could finish
uttering those words”
the girls laughed.
“Really Dami you are a shonky” Lola said giving another cute smile.
“Anyways, I bought you guguru & epa, girls love it.”
she giggled in excitement, waving the nicely wrapped popcorn and the corn
shaped groundnut.
“You must be joking!” Lola exclaimed.
“Thanks dear”
Sheila quickly stretched forth her hands to collect the package.
“Thought I was dealing with ungrateful girls” Dami said pouting her red lips. Really, you
would mistake it for a colouring book.
“Your bag seem big, hope you ain’t planning to sleep here?” Lola questioned looking deep into the bag.
“Of course I am, don’t you want?”
“Sure now, am used to you sandwiching me on my mattress,
while yours stays new.”
Lola complained
“Abi eleyi yo ni!” Dami pouring out the content of the little
yellow bag she was by then holding.
The
girls rushed to check out what she took forever to unpack.
“There are five different tops there o, kinda
similar anyways, the biggest size is for Folake”
she stuck out her tongue.
“You bought different colours?” Sheila questioned.
“Who owns the 5th one?” Lola asked, picking her favourite and packed
the rest.
“For Helen…
she might not get it anyways”
she picked up a nail file from the rack while she took time to admire her nails…
“The ball is in your court, it’s your cloth.”
Sheila moved closer to Dami, running her hands through her hair “I could kiss you now” fluttering her lashes.
“Thanks love!”
Lola said giving her a hug.
“You’re
welcome dear. Those are £10
tops o, I got in Topshop. End of summer sales, I need more hugs” Sheila drew near to give her a warm hug.
“We should be worried she got us a dress, she
only eats our food and even insult us...”
“…and sometimes I bring mine” Dami snapped in.
“She’s
probably compensating us then”
Sheila suggested.
“Whatever…”
Lola muttered.

“Evening girls”
“Evening”
the girls answered in chorus.
“This is my first time of seeing you this
semester, right?”
he quipped moving away from the hall way.
“Yes dear, there is nothing as sweet as taking
extra break from school”
“Oh, ok! ...see you girls are going out, hope you’re coming back?”
“Yeah sure, where else do I wanna go” she looked at Lola as she stuck her tongue out
while Lola hissed with her head cocked to one side.
“Alright now, see you soon, would come and get
what you bought for me then”
he said swinging the polythene bag he was carrying
“You wouldn’t
mind a blouse? That’s
all I’ve got…” Dami whined, thinking she wasn’t subtle enough.
“...blouse? I’m
sure you’ve
got something beta”
he laughed in amusement. “See
you soon girls”
he tried fixing his earpiece as he walked down the hallway to his room.
Sheila
locked the door to the room while the girls walked pass the hall way to the
hostel gate leaving Sheila to catch up with their pace.
“Really that Toyosi boy… something still tells me he’s gay!”
Dami said looking round to see if anyone else was nearby.
“Hmmmm…Dami!
Dami! You haven’t
chucked this your habit, you would never change!”
Sheila tugged her head from behind.
“Shut up! What do you know? Aboki…” she leaped forward leaving Lola and Sheila to
walk behind her…
