KALEIDOSCOPE EP 2 : Friends...

“And where did you keep the key…?!” ok… got it.
Sheila decided to change where she keeps the key to our room, after the incidence last night at the other building. Can’t afford losing my fridge or my laptop really, very important. And my shoes more than important. *straight face* Thank God she changed our hide out anyways, instincts!

It is the beginning of the semester and we all are running around with our logbook from our 6months IT. After standing 3hours in front of the HOD’s office the secretary came to announce he wouldn’t be coming back. Quite well! After wasting my time, I couldn’t even cry. My legs were swollen already like have got elephantiasis.
“see wetin shakara don cause o” I exclaimed has I remove my shoes.

Earlier this morning I was warned not to wear those shoes they weren’t my exact size but I insisted. Who wouldn’t wanna show off her designer shoes by Hermes on a day like this? “Mondays! How I hate you!” didn’t hesitate to bounce on my mattress. At least that would keep the birds from using my head as their amplifier! It bangs.

“Rain, Rain go away…” and who could be that dumb on a sunny day?
Listening to the footsteps drawing near I knew it was my roommate “by their footsteps you shall know them” trying to change my dress to something simpler and comfortable she scuttled into the self-contained room like she’s being chased by zombies who just escaped from the haves.  Not cool right?

“Why is this room scentless?” she gave that annoying wink like she kept a cook in the house.
“abeg no even start this afternoon, I dey boil.. Bring money lets cook spag”
Sheila for the first time didn’t argue as she went through her bag. Stretching the new #500 note towards me
“Rich girl, did you go to the bank?” rolled her big eyeballs in attempt of disapproval.
“Well” Collected the money in haste. ”Am famished” I screamed, “wash and blend the pepper before I get back” as I walked down the hall way.
My head still bangs, I feel light headed. They say hunger causes it too right? Maybe I could get a drink outside, my thoughts as I walked through the hallway.
My hostel has ‘Walmart’ in front of it. Walmart my foot! Buhaha…
Seriously I don’t really like walking in front of these people, I mean some of these women are gossips, like they really enjoy talking about we students, especially when you don’t buy things from them? You’re in trouble!
Walked towards my favourite customer anticipating, I was about ordering my goods when someone poked me from behind. Oops! Didn’t even notice.
“Lola, how far? With his right hand stretched out asking for a hand shake.
Gave him my not so friendly look… “My hands are dirty” I feigned
“Well how far with what I talked to you about?” moving closer like a shrink
I kept a mock-serious look “wale go and get busy please, I know your drunk quite well, go get some sleep” moved slightly away from him “this one wouldn’t delay my glory, certainly am not his next bait “please give me…” gazing in the direction of mummy Segun
I collected the pasta in a hurry, nobody else must see this or the  hostel eats from my pot.
                                -----------------------

I didn’t notice I was already by my room prior to what I saw? I was overwhelmed, by the amount of shoes at my door step…and now I even hear familiar voices. What? Not today when I got only one pasta and two eggs. “I can handle this” I thought as I pressed down the door knob.
“Shey na u go buy spag and egg wey we done dey wait for you since” Helen attacked me, her make-up like its Halloween
“and where did you hear that from?” I pounced on her.
“What do u mean?" she shrieked like she has had me in mind before now. "This girl I dey warn you o!” pointing her index finger at me.
I swung the polythene bag on the bed exposing the pasta while I quietly dropped the eggs on the table.
Gobsmacked by her chatter “this girl don spoil finish o, u no even wan know your mate again, chai” as I removed my blouse exposing my giant boobs ready for a big fight, beckoning on Folake to come assist me as I throw Helen and her dirty bags out.

Defenceless, She ran as far as her leg could take her, making excuses for her forwardness.
Sheila seems to be busy as she sits across the table and April, ‘our half cast’ seem so immersed in her phone.
“haha! Happy reading girlfriend” I teased Sheila :P
“ agbaya! Leave the poor girl alone. Helen pass the spag abeg lets start cooking”
“Folake! I love you” been expecting her to say that since anyways.
Within 5 minutes the whole thing was already cooking, how I love food!. :D
“This babe needs to go into catering” April flattered.
“At last!!! you talked! What was wrong with you?” tilted my head in her direction.
“What was? Or what is?” Helen gave a snide comment.
“Shut up! Let her talk” Folake sided.
“Let her talk? Fascinating! Anything new?” I drew a stool to sit while I listen to April speak.
“I broke up with David” April croaked her words.
“awwww!” shocked! I moved towards her, looked at her almost tearful brown eyes .April’s oblong face still looking so charming despite all that might be going through her mind. She couldn’t utter more words. Maybe she would just cry. A hug would force it, this aint the right time
“What happened?” I asked holding her hands
Helen jumped in “He got tired, he now deals with hoes, He’s grown wings! He started mis-behaving. April has been her side chick all along though she failed to listen to me” she moved an inch away from Folake like she is avoiding her wrath
Sheila amused by Helen short speech asked “how do you know all this? Information minister I hail o!”  Helen ignored sheila’s question like she was speaking gibberish. Rude girl.
                                --------------------------------

I ran into the kitchen to check our delicacy, before it starts burning I wouldn’t forgive myself.
But why are men like this? This is a question I keep asking myself David and April were really good together. Well I shouldn’t be so surprised that’s the same reason why I left mine.
“These boys really need to grow up” as I walked into the room.
“I keep telling you girls, these boys still have a lot of growing up to do”
“heyssss mummy Folake pleaseeeeee don’t start” Helen interrupted with her palm up facing Folake like she wants a high five ,tilted her neck in opposite direction.
“c’mon why have you been so aggressive?” Sheila complained
“Am not aggressive I just pity April, that ugly low class boy forming boss. He wouldn’t even pay for my hair, you would have left him long before now, but you were busy mesmerizing, you couldn’t just let go, buhaaahaaahahah….” Helen walked out of the room swinging her small waist like it’s gonna fall off.
This girl can be crazy sometimes.

April kept stirring at us without muttering a word. “Have known April for some time now, although she is a little bit reserved hence she is keeping too quiet about Helen, damn! This hoe deserves a hot slap but it’s not my call.
I scrunched up my brow and managed a smile. “Has he called you yet?”
“nope, what is he gonna say? Make excuses? Nope I won’t even pick up!”
“do you know the girl?”
“nope I don’t know her yet.
“do you want to know her? Really I could do this for you in few hours,” feeling like a FBI
“she doesn’t need that really, it’s all gone now. Just keep up the smiling face. Your smiles would kill her wherever she is” what are these ones saying? do smiles kill? tchewww abeg make we know person make we go beat the fool.
“Well, Helen has some explanations to make she knows something” I hesitated whispering in a low voice.
“Why are you so desperate Lola” Folake complained
“Really maybe for the first time Lola is making sense” Sheila looked out for me with the corner of her eyes. Well not in the mood to beat up someone.
“I can’t be more confused after the incident at David’s party. Flirting is her hobby, she didn’t waste time with dose titillating moves, quite alarming David couldn’t even say no, omolomo” Sheila whispered.
“so what do you mean? You feel she’s the one?” Folake asked stirring out the window
“Can’t you see she’s acting so suspicious?” moving towards the kitchen I shushed them to lower their voices. We dont have to inform the hostel what's going on in our room.
                                      --------------
Helen walked into the room with a haughty face
“The food never cook finish?”
She came sat between I and April, she was ready to frustrate her again. She dropped her phone trying to weave the tip of her so cherished Peruvian hair.
I picked up her phone in an attempt to go through her pictures but instead diverted to her message box. I couldn’t have believed my eyes but… yeah I had my glasses on.
Alarming, I hunched forward, but really she can’t know I went through her phone yet.
Helen who couldn’t just let her hair be stood up from my bed moved towards the mirror while I had the opportunity to pass the phone round for everyone else to read, making signs to them to keep a sealed lips.
April could not stop boiling inside while I kept her calm. Helen who was busy singing songs in her dialect didn’t even notice what was going on behind her. Maybe she knows she is just too dumb to get it.

Folake who got the phone last screamed at her loudest “Helen you are a disgrace!”
“I taught you said he’s ugly and he is of low class? How come you are the one asking him out? I thought you don’t talk to ugly boys?
Waow! Now I understand why you took I and David’s breakup so personal, that explains why u were frustrating me. it’s something you’ve always wanted you couldn’t just help it. Pilgarlic, atleast have left him now.” April stuffed her frustration.
“….and where did you guys get all these lies from…”her tone was dead, her expression too shocked too react.
“…from your phone, your phone told the lies” April cut her off.
Like my premonition; Helen accused us of going through her phone without her permission I would say only if she wasn’t suspected.
“I liked David that was a long time ago”  she felt so desperate to convince us.
“yeah a long time ago explains the conversation you had with him few minutes ago, hypocrite” sheila tackled removing her nerdy glasses like she’s ready for a fight. Folake sat there ready to watch the fight about to start. No! not in my room!
“Sheila please check the spag” I diverted, hoping she would go, this is not the time to go rogue abeg…
“you guys should calm down”
"Really i should calm down, cos the dude we are yelling for doesn't even worth it" April hissed as she tried fixing back her earpiece. Earpieces in, world out!
After waffling her words trying so hard to defend herself  not minding who was listening she utter some few words that pushed out my anger, she said without any penitence “but I thought we were friends?”
sheila who was by then receiving a call jumped into the bathroom. yeah! now i could lash Helen with words. i jumped in before she thinks she has said something clever...
“yeah that is the word we were friends , maybe someone needs a rehab, someone needs to be well cultured, someone needs manners, principles, shame, loyalty. Because someone here needs a break. As you can see we are not smiling. We might need a break from your troubles.” Well I tried saying all that with the calmest voice I could find cos that girl is the naughtiest girl have ever met.
                             -------------------------------

‘I should leave now, I wouldn’t wanna keep my visitors waiting’ Helen wobbled to where a her bag is like a child who just got caught from stealing cookies. Probably yeah she tried stealing a cookie :D
“see ya” she slammed the door behind her.
omo iran kiran” folake stammered “why can’t you all just be like Esther”
“who’s Esther?” Sheila who was about going for her book asked.
“The babe in industrial chemistry, the one that lives in the next compound”
“oh! That girl? I don’t trust her” I quipped
“hmmmm mummy lola! What do you know?” Sheila teased
“Really, nothing for now”
April who has been glued to her sit for some time now trying to exorcise the scenario, stood up, walked towards the kitchen and walked back, looking at her in amusement like an alien that just fell from space. Really what is she up to?
With her right hand on her stomach she yelled “are you girls ever going to dish this food?”
Folake with her over-sized body rushed up like she was been bitten by ants.
“yeah right that is why we have a school mummy :p”
Its past time before I noticed that my headache has long left me.
